An A-Z of Chinese Food
(Recipes Not Included)
Join British-Chinese author Jenny Lau to critically taste, creatively think and explore the pain, the politics and the possibilities of being homogeneous in so-called postcolonial Europe.
You may or may not have noticed the words “Asia,” “Asian” and “Asiatisch” on the shopfronts of Berlin. Have you wondered about the limitations and suggestions behind them?
You have heard a dish being praised as authentic or dismissed as inauthentic. Perhaps you have said so yourself. What is authentic? Who is speaking?
These and more questions are on the table.
Based on Lau’s insightful book An A-Z of Chinese Food (Recipes Not Included), the workshop explores cooking and sharing food as a political and cultural practice. Together we will taste douhua / tau foo fah (silken tofu) by @TantanDouhua with some critical “Pan-Asian” toppings by the author. We will also share stories and experiment with speculative menu-writing.
